The goal of STEM education.

VSAA believes that students learn best when they are engaged, excited, and challenged. We understand the need to move away from traditional teaching methodologies and move toward an educational philosophy that will provide the students with novel learning strategies.

In order to implement high quality learning, students must be able to go above and beyond memorizing facts and reciting the information presented to them. At VSAA we will implement techniques that will develop critical thinking skills. This includes: the ability to synthesize, differentiate, analyze, hypothesize and integrate learned information. Under the teacher’s guidance, students will be able to take these skills and utilize them to facilitate discussions, engage in debates, and present research-based proposals to their peers as examples of their own learning. In addition to giving the students an appreciation for learning, teachers will also be encouraged to become part of the learning environment.

We strive to create a sense of community. By doing that VSAA will be able to foster an environment that will be more cohesive, caring and welcoming than other more traditional schools. VSAA will promote closer home-school relationships by creating opportunities for parents and families to become part of the decision making process of the day to day running and maintenance of the school. Parents will be kept informed about parental involvement programs, meetings, and other activities they could be involved in through newsletters, internet websites, phone calls and text messages. In addition, parents will also be provided with the opportunity to plan and implement effective parental involvement activities in conjunction with their parental involvement coordinators at the school site. Finally, VSAA will work hard to provide parents with the materials and training they need to be better able to help their child achieve their potential.
